{Best of Beauty} Rosewater

Nothing is more classic or ladylike, than a delicate rose. Apparently, nothing is more useful either! Newsflash (in case you’ve been living under a rock, like me): when distilled in water, roses can also create a miraculous beauty product. Rosewater is known to prevent aging of the skin, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, brighten and rejuvenate skin tone, and minimize pores. The antibacterial and antiseptic properties of the rose also combats acne, pimples, stressed skin, and even serves as a remedy for sunburn. Furthermore (as if we need any more), all-natural pure rosewater can be used all over your body, in your hair, in your eyes, even in your food.  It’s like rosewater is beauty’s best-kept secret, except I’m less the sort of girl to keep this kind of secret, and more the sort to scream it from the rooftops.
But wait…there’s more (in my super professional infomercial voice). I have been so excited about this revelation, that I have spent hours researching the top-rated rosewater products, based on consumer reviews, and now I am going to share that with you:

Shea Terra Organics Pure Moroccan Rose Water

(I bought this one!)
From the website: No where else in the world do damascene roses grow so fragantly sweet. In the sun drenched oasis valley of Kelaat M’Gouna, Morocco, millions of roses are turned into fragrant, soothing and anti-aging rose water. The water is so sweet smelling that just a sniff of the water makes you feel years younger. Imparting its silky feel to the skin, pure Moroccan Rose Water is an excellent choice for a hydrating toner after washing the face. During the day it can be spritzed on the skin to keep skin cool and hydrated. Add a little to a mask along with a little yogurt for a soothing mask that plumps up cells. Why we love it: Fans of Shea Terra love the fact that this product is pure distilled rose water, not rose oil added to water. A little goes a long way, and is great for hair, skin, and body, or as a toner for all skin types. Some reviewers use it to remedy dry eyes, as opposed to eyedrops, one even commented on it’s ability to brighten their eyes, as well!!

Duchess Marden Damascena Pure Rose Water

From the website: Duchess Marden, a skincare line devoted to the rose and its soothing and refreshing properties, presents this wonderful multitasker. Water derived from pink damask rose petals during steam distillation – enhanced with rose oil and Japanese honeysuckle – at once purifies, hydrates and invigorates your skin while combating wrinkles, rosacea and broken capillaries. Use as a daily facial toner and calming antiseptic following cleansing, or place drenched cotton pads over your eyes to reduce puffiness and revive your senses. Free from artificial ingredients, parabens and chemical preservatives, Duchess Marden products are vegan and sustainable. Why we love it: Those who’ve tried it say, Duchess Marden’s rose water is great if you want something that will hydrate and balance your skin. Those reviewers with sensitive skin- particularly those who steer clear of toners because they’re too harsh and drying, say this one has earned high marks for it’s gentleness and effectiveness. When applied over make-up, it’s also been said to keep your face looking fresher, longer.

Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater Hand Therapy Cream

From the website: Simple distillation of rose petals and pure water is a classic English beauty tonic for the skin. Our rosewater bath and body care collection uses a distillation of Rosa centifolia – the fabled ‘hundred petal rose’, cherished for its clear, sweet fragrance. FRAGRANCE: Clear, fresh and sweet, with light notes of violet and leafy greens. Why we love it: My good friend Cara recommended this product to me, and in doing so, she couldn’t stop RAVING. Upon further review, Crabtree & Evelyn’s rose water hand creme is a huge hit among women all over. Those who’ve tried it say the smell is very authentic. They also say, if you don’t like the smell of roses, this one might not be for you. Others love the wonders it works at repairing cracked, dry cuticles and evens overall skin tone.

Smith’s Minted Rosebud Salve

(I use this ALL THE TIME!!)
From the website: An Old Family Standby Since 1895, this world-famous salve has been re-discovered by Hollywood stars and makeup artists. Rosebud Salve is still a favorite to aid in the relief of chapped and dry skin, blemishes, diaper rash, and detergent burns. Rosebud Salve is also a wonderful lip moisturizer and natural looking lip gloss. Why we love it: When looking for a great multi-tasing beauty product, this balm is a dream come true! Cosmetologists recommend using it on cheeks and brow bones, to add some shimmer. Some have found it to be a great remedy for small blemishes, and still others say it’s useful and effective for dry hands and elbows. And of course, it’s perfect for smoothing and softening tired lips, while also providing a subtle rose aroma that soothes and calms. I personally, don’t leave home without it!
*Note: Be sure to read the labels for each of these products carefully before using. Not all are safe for all of the uses mentioned above, particularly in the eyes, or to be consumed.
